What Makes It Special
The causeway gives visitors close views of marsh birds and alligators before the ocean even comes into sight. Beyond the beach, Atalaya adds art, architecture and the story of the Huntingtons, whose former property helped create both the park and neighboring Brookgreen Gardens.
Interesting Facts
More than 300 bird species have been recorded in the park. Atalaya was designed around a central courtyard and a 40-foot water tower. The park protects both freshwater and saltwater habitats.
