Hunting Island feels wild in a way few coastal parks do. Maritime forest, palmettos, lagoon, beach, and the historic lighthouse all share the same barrier island, creating a journey that changes character every time the trail turns.
Through the Maritime Forest
The approach to the beach is part of the adventure. Palmettos, twisted live oaks, and dense coastal growth create a green tunnel that feels far removed from the open Atlantic only a short distance away.
A Barrier-Island Coast
At the shoreline, the scenery changes completely. Wind, surf, sand, and weather continually reshape the edge of the island. It is beautiful, but it also makes the natural forces that form a barrier island easy to understand.
The Lighthouse Story
The historic Hunting Island lighthouse gives the park a strong visual anchor. Its long history and elevated view connect visitors with generations of coastal navigation, while the surrounding forest and beach keep the experience rooted in the present landscape.
