Boneyard Beach at Hunting Island in Context

Barrier islands are never fixed. Waves, storms, currents, and rising water move sand from one place to another, sometimes leaving former forest at the edge of the surf.

02

What Makes It Distinct

At Boneyard Beach, fallen trunks and exposed root systems make that movement visible. The trees are not decoration placed on the sand; they are evidence of a shoreline that has shifted around them.

Following the R&M Album

Ron and Michelle’s September 2021 album concentrates on texture and form—salt-worn wood, open ocean, reflections, and the contrast between a living maritime forest and the beach in front of it.

Why This Story Belongs

This story does not duplicate the broader Hunting Island page. That adventure covers the full park; Boneyard Beach is a close study of one changing shoreline and the photographs it inspired.
