Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site in Context

On August 19, 1780, roughly 200 Patriot militia faced a combined force of Loyalist militia and British provincial troops near Musgrove’s Mill. The unexpected Patriot victory became an important morale boost after recent defeats.

02

What Makes It Distinct

The historic site interprets more than troop movements. It explains the partisan conflict that divided backcountry families and communities, giving the battlefield a human dimension beyond a list of dates.
