The Boy of the Waxhaws
Anna Hyatt Huntington’s bronze sculpture gives the park its unforgettable first image: a young Andrew Jackson riding a farm horse. Instead of presenting the polished figure from a presidential portrait, the artwork places him in the Carolina backcountry that shaped his early life.
History You Can Walk Through
The museum interprets life in the late-eighteenth-century backcountry and the forces that shaped Jackson during the American Revolution. Nearby, a replica schoolhouse helps turn names and dates into a physical setting—simple materials, practical spaces, and the conditions of an earlier community.
A Park Beyond the Museum
An 18-acre lake, two one-mile loop trails, camping, picnic areas, and open grounds give the visit room to breathe. The landscape lets families move naturally between history and recreation instead of experiencing either one in isolation.
