Myrtle Beach State Park offers a quieter side of the Grand Strand. Oceanfront maritime forest, a fishing pier, trails, camping, and a broad Atlantic beach surround a park that made history when it became the first in the South Carolina system to open.
South Carolina’s First Open State Park
Myrtle Beach State Park opened in 1936, becoming the first park to welcome visitors in the South Carolina State Park system. It is also one of sixteen South Carolina parks developed with the help of the Civilian Conservation Corps.
A Maritime Forest Beside the Ocean
The park protects an oceanfront maritime forest within one of South Carolina’s busiest beach destinations. The trees, nature trail, and shaded campground create a noticeably different experience from the hotels and attractions nearby.
Pier, Beach, and Coastal Recreation
Visitors come for surf fishing, the Myrtle Beach pier, beach walks, camping, cabins, educational programs, and Atlantic views. The setting makes it possible to enjoy both a traditional beach day and a state-park experience.
Part of the R&M Park Story
Ron and Michelle’s album spans visits from 2020 through 2022. They have also served as volunteer park hosts here, giving Myrtle Beach State Park a personal place in the larger R&M South Carolina State Parks story.
Park history and visitor information were checked against South Carolina State Parks. Original photographs remain credited to R&M Adventures.
